Ellen Schall is Senior Presidential Fellow (since 2013) and Dean Emeritus of NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Her work portfolio is broad and includes leading NYU's affordability initiative, managing the President's Office relationship with the Board of Trustees, and representing the President on Executive-level searches.
Ms. Schall has been at NYU since 1992. She served as Dean of the Wagner School from 2002 to 2012, during which time she led the school from an institution with a strong local and regional reputation to one that is widely recognized nationally and internationally. While a faculty member, her research focused on leadership and organizational transformation. She has extensive experience in nonprofit management and governance, including more than 30 years of active membership on the board of University Settlement House.
Ms. Schall began her career as a Legal Aid Society criminal defense attorney, and she served as the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice from 1983 to 1990.
She received a B.A. from Swarthmore College and a J.D. (cum laude) from NYU School of Law.
