A Letter to Virginia Tech President
April 17, 2007
I write to express my community's solidarity with your community as you face the realities of this monumental tragedy. We reach out and embrace you with profound and heartfelt compassion.
We trust that you will find comfort and energy to sustain you in the outpouring of sympathy and support from the entire academy and indeed from throughout the nation and world.
On a personal note, I know that your ties to Virginia Tech are deep and strong - spanning four decades of devotion and accomplishment. I believe that you are the person uniquely qualified both to comfort and lead your community; you have my utmost confidence.
You are and will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
