We are very pleased to share with you the membership of the Tandon School of Engineering Dean’s Search Committee, whose task is to identify candidates to succeed Dean Jelena Kovačević, whose decision to step down as dean at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year was announced in May.

Few decisions are weightier for a school than the selection of its dean. The selection of a new dean to guide and advance Tandon’s academic trajectory is vital to the school’s — and the university's — future. For that reason, we thank all the members of the Committee in advance — and in particular its Chair, Professor Guido Gerig — for taking on this new essential task, which comes in addition to all their existing duties. It is a commendable reflection of their dedication and service to Tandon and NYU.

We also want to thank Dean Jelena Kovačević for all that she has done for Tandon, which she has led since 2018. During her tenure as Dean, Jelena created a strategic plan, The Tandon Torch, increased research expenditures, hired dozens of new faculty, had 13 faculty members win NSF Early Career Awards, and launched new initiatives such as the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Sustainable Engineering Initiative, all the while deftly navigating the school through a global pandemic. The successes of her deanship will no doubt play a crucial role in attracting top candidates to lead the Tandon School of Engineering into the future.
