We are pleased to share with you the names of the members of the ISAW Director Search Committee, chaired by Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Studies Beate Pongratz-Leisten. The members of the search committee were selected for their comprehensive understanding of ISAW — in particular the Institute’s special commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship and public engagement. Together, the members of the committee will bring to the search a deep understanding of and appreciation for ISAW, along with a commitment to represent the interests of the full ISAW community.

We know how important collaboration and consultation are to the ISAW community, so engaging with and drawing insights from it will play a critical role in the search committee’s efforts. You will soon receive more detailed information about upcoming community engagement sessions, which will enable you to share your views on the challenges and opportunities facing ISAW’s next director, and on the mix of attributes, experiences, and mindsets that you hope for in the Institute’s next leader.

We hope, too, that you will nominate people who, in your view, would be visionary leaders for ISAW’s next phase; please send nominations to isawdirectorsearch@nyu.edu

The members of the committee will review all nominees — both those suggested by the search firm that will assist them in their work and those submitted by members of the ISAW community. Please note that the search committee will treat the identities of nominees with utmost discretion. The committee will then interview a group of semifinalists and identify for us a small number of finalists, whom we will interview next year.

We want to thank all the committee members, and especially Beate Pongratz-Leisten. They have all agreed to undertake this vitally important charge in addition to their other responsibilities. We are grateful for their dedication to ISAW and feel confident that the search will result in a worthy director for the Institute.
