NYU Abu Dhabi Abroad Course Application NYU STUDENTS ONLY

NYU Abu Dhabi is offering January Term (J-Term) 2013 courses in Abu Dhabi, Accra, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, New York, Shanghai, and Sydney that will give students from NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU New York the opportunity to study together and experience the rich diversity of the Global Network University. These courses are designed to be immersive experiences that reach beyond the classroom to incorporate experiential learning and often involve co-curricular field trips. Taking a single course during January Term offers an intense, shared experience that forges strong bonds between faculty and students across the Global Network University. Many of the NYUAD courses include extra-curricular events and activities to deepen their cultural and social interactions with the host community. These activities include day trips, group projects, one-on-one tutorials, and guest speakers. January courses offer the unique experience to learn from renowned scholars, writers, artists, journalists, and policy analysts who teach only during the January term as well as distinguished professors from NYU and NYUAD.

We invite you to learn more about NYU Abu Dhabi. You can review our J-Term 2013 course offerings by selecting January 2013 here.

Enrollment: Enrollment in the NYUAD J-Term courses is limited so participating students can fully benefit from the advantages of small-size, seminar-style classes. As a result, the selection process is competitive. Applications from NYU New York students for participation in the NYUAD J-Term 2013 study away programs are due October 31, 2012. Students will be notified of the results by November 6, 2012 to allow for sufficient time to process visas and provide pre-departure orientation.

Selection Process: Selection for any NYUAD study away J-Term course is based on a student’s academic record, the strength of the application, academic preparation for and suitability of the chosen program. The Office of Global Education at NYUAD will review the applications and select the students. Students on academic or disciplinary probation are not eligible for participation in NYUAD J-Term programs.

NYU Abu Dhabi also offers J-Term courses in New York. Although spaces are limited, enrollment in these courses does not require an application and NYU New York-based students can register for these classes on a first-come, first-served basis through Albert.

Pre-Departure Preparation: NYU New York-based students approved to take an NYUAD J-Term course away from the New York campus must attend a Pre-Departure Intercultural Orientation Session specific to their study away program. This session will provide guidance for getting to the site, making connections in the host community, enhancing their skills of intercultural communication, staying safe and healthy, and maximizing their intercultural learning.

Credit: Academic credit for the NYUAD J-Term programs is treated like any other credit awarded for coursework at NYU. The NYUAD J-Term courses will be recorded on the student’s NYU transcript, and the final grades from such courses will be calculated into a student’s NYU grade point average (GPA). The J-term course descriptions will provide details on the majors and programs each course may count towards so that NYU NY-based students can determine if the course they are interested in can help them make progress towards their degrees.
