Can I apply for financial aid to help me pay for my January Term course?
Financial aid is available for eligible NYU undergraduates. Students should visit the January Term Financial Aid page for more information.
As an NYU student, how do I register for January Term courses?
You register on Albert beginning October 22. After January 7, NYU students must register in person at the Student Services Center, on 25 W. 4th Street. See NYU Student Registration Calendar for details.
As a non-NYU student, how do I register for January Term courses?
You must submit the January Term on-line registration form. Upon receiving your NYU ID number and netID, you will be able to register on Albert beginning October 22. After January 7, visiting students must register in person at the Office of University Programs, on 18 Washington Place. See Visiting Student Registration Calendar for details.
Are freshmen eligible to register for January Term courses?
Yes. Talk with your advisor about how the credits will apply to your major/elective requirements.
Will these classes help me graduate faster?
You will earn credit for these courses so it is possible that January Term will help you complete your degree requirements faster. However, January Term courses are intensive so you can take a maximum of 4 credits.
I am not able to arrive for the class I want to take until the second day it meets, do I need permission to start a day late?
Because the January Term courses are highly intensive students are strongly encouraged not to miss any of the course meetings.
Can I take a 4 credit January Term course and add it to 12 credits during the Spring semester so my total of 16 can count against the spring tuition that allows 12 to 18 credits?
No. January term courses are separate from Spring semester courses. You can take a January Term course and continue to enroll in up to 18 credits during the Spring semester.
Is tuition remission available for January Term courses?
Yes, NYU employees and their dependents are eligible for tuition remission. Visit Bursar Tuition Remission Page for more information.
I'm switching residence halls between fall and spring semester, can I move into my new hall in December so moving won't interfere with my studying for my winter class?
Residents moving to a new room for the spring semester must completely move out of their fall space by Thursday, December 20, 2012. Any questions about the move process should be directed to the Residence Hall Director of your fall housing assignment.
I'm going abroad in the spring so I have a housing contract with NYU but not in New York, can I stay in housing for January Term?
Yes, please send an email to housing.winter.session@nyu.edu in order to arrange this. Please note that while NYU Housing will be able to accommodate you during your January Term course, you will likely be required to relocate to another residence hall space for January Term. Please note that housing is only available until Saturday, January 26, 2013.
Is housing available for non-NYU (visiting) students?
Yes. Limited housing is available for visiting students. Visiting students must fill out the housing registration form and submit it, along with their registration, to the Office of University Programs. Once you are enrolled, you will be contacted by the Department of Residential Life and Housing Services with the specific details and payment information.
