MENDOJPËRTY

On June 12, 2015, artist Alketa Xhafa Mripa displayed five thousand dresses in the soccer stadium of Pristina, Kosovo in an installation entitled “Thinking of You”, to honor the survivors of sexual violence during the 1998-99 war, break the silence, and shed light on these brutal crimes, largely ignored since the war. The art installation, “Thinking of You,” was made possible by the survivors, activists and other women who donated dresses, and was sponsored by President Atifete Jahjaga. The documentary The Making of #MendojPërTy/ #ThinkingOfYou, produced by Anna Di Lellio and Fitim Shala, is the story of how art and activism can change the culture of isolation, resignation and shame that surrounds wartime sexual violence. The Embassy of Kosovo to the United States, the Women’s Foreign Policy Group, and NYU Washington, DC presented a very special documentary screening and discussion with Her Excellency Atifete Jahjaga, President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vlora Çitaku, Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to the United States, and producer Anna Di Lellio.
