Living at NYU
Living in one of NYU's 23 residence halls is an enriching experience that more than 12,000 students take part in each year. The staff of the Department of Residential Education works to build community and enhance student learning outside the classroom by promoting residents' interactions with Resident Assistants (RAs), Peer Educators, staff, and faculty members. Community Development Educators (CDEs) and Assistant Community Development Educators (ACDEs)—the professional staff in each hall—oversee community-building initiatives, and support hall governments, programming, and leadership opportunities.
Residential Education offers several special-interest living arrangements that are based in a number of residence halls. Explorations floors are theme-based communities across campus that involve a faculty member who participates in floor programming. In addition, NYU has two Residential Colleges in which the entire hall focuses on building community through social and academic programming, service, and involvement that unite and develop the interests and experience of faculty and students who live in the building.
While the Department of Residential Education focuses on learning, leadership, and community, the Department of Housing is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the residence halls. They oversee room assignments and room change processes, charge adjustments, and adherence to the terms and conditions of the housing license.
