New York City Facts

NYU students live and study in one of the most diverse and accomplished cities in the world. Over 2.8 million of New York's 8 million residents were born outside the United States, and over 1.2 million people speak a language other than English at home. New York is truly the world's first "glocal" city — simultaneously global and local, making the "student experience" at NYU unlike any other.

Each day, NYU students utilize the NYC subway system, which is over 100 years old, made up of 722 miles of subway track. Students engage in NYC culture and history at one of the city's 85 museums. They enjoy the nearly 29,000 acres of green space and recreation areas in thousands of NYC parks. They worship in churches, cathedrals, mosques, and synagogues. They dine in the city's tens of thousands of restaurants, which represent every ethnic cuisine imaginable. And almost every day, our students return to Washington Square to learn and share, and to enrich the University with the experience and observations the city has given them.
