• Animal Welfare Orientation Process
  All Faculty, students and research or technical staff who will be directly involved in research with the use of vertebrate animals at NYU, Washington Square Campus, must satisfactorily complete the Animal Welfare Orientation process and have their role identified on a University Animal Welfare Committee (UAWC) approved protocol.

  The New Scientists Orientation process was created to give new personnel an introduction to the laws and regulations that govern all aspects of animal care and use programs. You may be entering the field of animal research for the first time as an undergraduate student; you may be a post-doctoral researcher with extensive experience at other research institutions; or you may be somewhere in between. Whatever your experience, participation in the New Scientists Orientation process is a prerequisite to gaining the authorization needed to access to animal use areas at this institution.

  All Faculty, students and research or technical staff who wish to engage in research involving the use of vertebrate animals, must satisfactorily complete the orientation and have their role identified on a UAWC approved protocol PRIOR to participating in any animal-related activities and PRIOR to obtaining access to the research facility.
