This summer I received an IMLS grant for work in film preservation at the University of South Carolina’s Moving Image Research Collections. The work for this grant focused specifically on the C.E. Feltner collection, which contains a large percentage of Pathé newsreel material, early travelogue films, and other noteworthy items. Under the tutelage of Movietone Curator Dr. Greg Wilsbacher and Executive Director Dr. Mark Garrett Cooper, I was able to perform a variety of archival tasks, including the creation of a database, identification and labeling system, all unique to the collection itself so that it may be used in future time by scholars and researchers interested in the news that stays news.
