Siobhan Hagan began her IMLS-funded internship at the University of Baltimore's Langsdale Library on June 1, 2009.
For ten weeks she worked within the Special Collections Department, under the guidance of Thomas Hollowak (Associate Director of Special Collections), Robert Shindle (Senior Archivist, Special Collections) and Aiden Faust (Digital Imaging Technician).
Siobhan completed a series-level inventory of the thousands of items in the WJZ-TV Collection, which included audio, video, film, and optical moving images. She also helped compile information for an NEH grant for the library's WMAR-TV Collection, contacted vendors for film transfer quotes, inspected film, and researched various film and video formats, Intellectual Property rights, and the history of electronic news gathering for television broadcast. Using the inventory she created, Siobhan wrote a thorough assessment of the collection, offering the University of Baltimore specific preservation recommendations for the WJZ-TV Collection. Based on Siobhan's work this summer, the Langsdale Library is planning on completing grant applications for the preservation of the collection.
