Shop Theatre
The Shop Theatre is the third of four theatres in the Drama Department. It is a 49 seat black-box theatre that is reconfigured for every production. This space is really the student's production space. Each semester, a student Program Board is impaneled to solicit production proposals from the student body. The Program Board then interviews the proposers and selects four or five projects for production. The Experimental Theatre Wing (an acting studio within the the Drama Department) will normally produce four or five self-scripted student projects in this space. All of these productions are produced, directed, designed and acted by students in the Drama Department,
Access to the theatre is from the left hand elevators in the main lobby of 721 Broadway or by using the Paulette Goddard Staircase near the rear of the lobby.
The Shop Theatre is equipped with an ETC Express 24/48 computer lighting console, 24 dimmers, in a "dimmer-per-circuit" configuration and a lighting inventory of about 60 units. The sound system consists of a fairly traditional mixer-amplifier-speaker arrangement with cassette and CD players.
The theatre space is roughly 20' wide by 50' deep with a 13' lighting grid overhead.
