Draping

Instructor: Kristin Jensen

This class is geared toward learning the basic draping and construction techniques associated with women's garments. Working on a dress form, each student will learn how to drape a basic fitted sloper. Once draped, we will go through the process of transfering the draping to paper and trueing the pattern. Once trued, the pattern will be cut in a muslin mockup and students will have the opportunity to be involved in the fitting process. Then finally, we will look at how to take the information gathered in the fitting and transfer it to a corrected and trued up final working pattern. Having learned tis process, the student will then design their own variation of the sloper and take it through the same steps from draping to a finished pattern. At this point the emphasis will shift to construction techniques, as students will be led through the steps of "finishing" a garment, resulting in a totally custom-fit constructed garment in real fabric.
