This class is designed to introduce the student to various drawing and painting techniques, plus mediums. These skills will be applied in weekly sketchbook entries and classroom projects. Further, with these new found or enhanced skills the student will be well equipped to communicate their design ideas in the collaborative process and developing a body of work for their portfolio.
The Fall Semester's focus is on drawing with pencil, charcoal, ink, Conte Crayon and Prisma Color Pencils. The student will learn the basics in proportion, composition, design, and "observation/seeing". Various projects are as follows: self portraits, still life,perspective landscape, architectural details, transferring and copying images and weekly sketchbook assignments.
The Spring Semester is devoted to Color and painting using either acrylics or water colors. The student is introduced to Basic Color Theory and various painting techniques and styles. Once again there will be a weekly sketchbook entry coupled with classroom assignments developing painting and rendering skills. Some of the various projects will include self portraits, landscape, still life, collage, architectural details, and copying-transferring. Emphasis will be on mixing and matching colors, correct brush care and use, and developing a creative pace.
