This is an introduction for the beginning student to the theories and practices of observing, translating, analyzing and creating conceptual design. The first semester will include a sequence of explanatory design exercises/projects intended to familiarize the student with the basic vocabulary of form, context, scale, order, and concept through observation. Once the student gains a working understanding of the basic visual literacy, they will be assigned a narrative collaborative project that requires the adaptation of theatrical analysis to a specific context and program. Here the students will develop, refine and communicate ideas to articulate their final design solution.
