Biography
Mark Bennett has composed scores and designed sound for the American premieres of new plays by Edward Albee, Arthur Miller, Tom Stoppard, Athol Fugard, Tony Kushner and Caryl Churchill, among many others. Recent Broadway projects include Lincoln Center's THE COAST OF UTOPIA (dir. by Jack O'Brien, Drama Desk Award; Oustanding Music for a Play/Henry Hewes Award; Outstanding Sound Design), HENRY IV (directed by Jack O'Brien), GOLDA'S BALCONY, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, THE GOAT, TARTUFFE, Lily Tomlin's SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF INTELLIGENT LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE, THE LION IN WINTER, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and LONDON ASSURANCE, and the upcoming A STEADY RAIN (dir. by John Crowley).

Mark was the resident composer and sound designer for the Ridiculous Theatrical Company for five years.
As a musical theater composer Mark was recently commissioned by The La Jolla Playhouse to score and co-write lyrics for MOST WANTED (co-lyrics and book by Jessica Hagedorn, dir. by Michael Greif). The musical was presented by The La Jolla Playhouse in 2007.
Mark is the recipient of multiple grants from the NEA, NYFA, NYSCA, and The Mary Cary Flagler Charitable Trust. He received a 1998 OBIE for Sustained Excellence, A New York Dance and Performance (BESSIE) Award for composition, Ovation, Robbie, and Garland Awards. He has also received ten Drama Desk and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations. Mark has been a Yamaha Artist since 2002.
