Brief Updates
The New Students’ Guide to Sustainability at NYU
Incoming NYU students interested in sustainability have a new resource to draw upon - the web-based New Students' Guide to Sustainability at NYU. The New Students' Guide, which was made possible by a Green Grant from the NYU Sustainability Task Force covers three core topic areas: how students can make sustainable lifestyle choices, the opportunities they have to integrate sustainability into their academic programs, and how they can participate in environmental efforts on campus. While it's primarily NYU-focused, we hope that the New Students' Guide will become a resource for other colleges and universities as well!
NYU Student Start Green
When NYU students arrived at their dorms last week, they were greeted not only with room keys and area maps, but also with carbon fluorescent lightbulbs. The CFLs were provided by NYU Facilities and Construction Management, who hope that they will help to both reduce students' energy consumption, and inspire them to continue choosing CFLs even after they move on from the residence halls. Entering NYU freshmen were introduced to sustainability from the very beginning in other ways, too - collaboration with the Student Resource Center led to a comprehensive set of Green Welcome Week programs, and many different departments included flyers about sustainability, bike maps, and compost maps in their students' orientation packets.
