Solicitation for Faculty

We are writing to ask you to contribute to an important, worldwide dialogue on climate change. Whether your field has any direct bearing on climate change or not, please consider contributing to this conversation by one of the options below:

1) Contribute to a cross-disciplinary paper on sustainability:
Write a one sentence to one paragraph abstract on how your research, field or the topic of your class advances understanding, changes attitudes, and improves policy regarding climate change and environmental issues.

Email this abstract to focusthenation@nyu.edu with "abstract" in the subject line. These statements will be published as a collective document on the NYU Sustainability website, and will serve as a foundation for future interdisciplinary collaboration on environmental issues within the University.

2) Focus your class for Focus the Nation:
If you have any classes on January 31st, consider devoting at least fifteen minutes of the period to discussing how the themes or topics of the course relate to global climate change. For examples, refer to the Focus the Nation sample teach-in agenda at http://www.focusthenation.org/teachinmodel.php. We are sensitive to the importance of maintaining the integrity of your classroom schedule - these activities are intended to enhance, not disengage from, course content.

3) Participate in the Focus the Nation teach-in:
On January 31st we have assembled a program of research presentations, workshops and panels relating to local solutions to the climate crisis. If you are interested in participating in this program, email focusthenation@nyu.edu with "teach-in" in the subject line. For more information about the schedule of events, faculty presentations, and panels, visit Focus the Nation at NYU.

Finally, we ask that you encourage your students to attend all or part of the slate of Focus the Nation events.

If you are interested in participating in any of these three initiatives or have any questions, please email focusthenation@nyu.edu. For more information, please visit the main page . Thank you for your support and willingness to contribute to this critical discussion.
