Project update: Occupants underestimate compostables by 51%
Before installing composting stations, the Compost Collection @ NYU Wagner team did a waste characterization study to baseline the current waste stream being landfilled. As you can read the Mid Term report, they found that 65% of the waste stream in Wagner's academic space at the Puck Building is actually compostable. The team also surveyed building occupants, who estimated that just 14% of their daily waste is compostable - underestimating by about 50%!
