NYU's 2008 Green Apple Move Out was a complete success, collecting over 16,300 pounds of used items for NYC-area charities from students moving out of eleven residence halls.  The program has since been institutionalized by NYU Recycling Services, and expanded to serve 14 residence halls. Reusing goods locally prevents greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, land degradation and other activities associated with production and/or transportation.
