ELIGIBILITY / RATES / DATES
The Office of Summer Housing provides inexpensive, short-term housing in New York University residence halls for programs and organizations needing housing for up to three weeks for a minimum of 10 people. There is no minimum stay requirement.
In order to be eligible for short-term housing, the program/event must meet one of the following criteria:
- The program/event is sponsored by a New York University department.
- The program/event is sponsored by a not-for-profit organization that is holding a conference in the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life and is requesting housing for the conference attendees.
Please note:
- All participants housed must be at least 17 years of age.
- Family housing requests, including spouses, partners and children not attending the program or event, cannot be accommodated.
The 2009 Summer Housing program begins on Sunday, May 17th and ends on Saturday, August 8th. All reservations must occur during this time. Availability may be limited from late June through mid July due to summer orientation programs for incoming first-year students.

RESIDENCE HALL ACCOMMODATIONS
Short-term residents are housed in unadorned student dormitory rooms in residence
halls located near the main NYU campus in Greenwich Village.
2009 Short-term Housing options are:
1. Brittany Hall, located at 55 East 10th Street
- Conveniently located at the corner of East 10th Street and Broadway
- Shared occupancy bedrooms for two or three occupants in suites with up to two bedrooms (up to five residents in each suite)
- Each suite has a bathroom shared by all occupants of the suite
- Brittany Hall is not air-conditioned. Residents are not permitted to bring air-conditioners, however, fans are permitted

2. 12th Street Residence Hall, located at 120 East 12th Street
- Conveniently located a few blocks from the Washington Square campus area; between Third & Fourth Avenues
- 12th Street is a brand new air-conditioned residence hall, opening May 2009
- Shared occupancy bedrooms for two occupants in suites with up to two bedrooms (up to four residents in each suite)
- Each suite has a bathroom shared by all occupants of the suite

There are a limited number of single occupancy bedrooms available in each residence
hall.
Furnishings
All bedrooms are furnished with a twin size bed, dresser, and desk for each resident. There is overhead lighting in each bedroom.
Special Accommodations
Please note that if any participant(s) will require a special accommodation based on a medical condition or disability, please notify NYU Summer Housing as soon as possible to discuss the type of accommodation being requested.
Smoking Policy
Please note that smoking is not permitted in NYU Housing. This includes individual bedrooms.
Residence Hall Staffing
Each residence hall is staffed by a full-time Residence Hall Operations Manager who is
assisted by a staff of specially trained student employees.
SERVICES
Security:
Each residence hall has 24 hour security provided by the NYU Department of Public Safety. All residents will receive a temporary ID card upon checking in. Residents will be required to present this ID card upon entry into the residence hall.
Reception Desk:
Each residence hall has a reception desk, which serves as the primary contact point for information, check-in, check-out, maintenance concerns, messages, and emergencies.
Linen:
A packet of linen and bedding is provided to each resident at check-in. The linen packet includes a small towel, sheet set, pillow, and blanket.
Laundry:
Laundry facilities are available for use by residents in each residence hall.
Please note that all washers and dryers are cashless and only accept NYU Campus Cash as payment. In order to utilize the laundry machines, arrangements must be made with NYU Campus Cash prior to the program's arrival. Dining:
Meal services and catering may be arranged by contacting Aramark Dining Service at NYU at 212-995-3030.
Meeting Space Reservation:
Meeting & event facilities are available at the Kimmel Center for University Life, located at 60 Washington Square South. Additional information is available on the Kimmel Center website.
Please note:
- NYU does not provide in-room telephone, cable television or internet service to short-term residents.
- NYU does not provide toiletries to short-term residents.
- Residents are responsible for the daily upkeep of their own room. Cleaning service is not provided in occupied rooms.
RESERVATION & PAYMENT INFORMATION
How To Apply
To request a group reservation for your NYU program or conference, please complete the online request:
Summer Housing 2009 Short Term Group Reservation Request
Applications can only be submitted by a designated representative from either an
NYU sponsored program or event or a representative from a not-for-profit
organization that is using the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life as a conference
facility.
We recommend that applications for Short-Term Summer Housing be submitted by
December 8, 2008 for priority consideration. We will accept applications after
December 8, 2008 on a space-available basis.
Coordination of group reservations and payments is the responsibility of the
department or organizer. Individual program participants cannot make individual housing arrangements
or payments with the Office of Summer Housing.
Payment Information
For NYU programs, payment can be made by interdepartmental transfer of funds or check at the completion of the event.
For non-NYU affiliated organizations, an initial deposit of 50% of the estimated total charges must be remitted by May 1, 2009. The remaining balance is due upon completion of the event. Payment can be made by check or credit card.
Cancellation Policy & Timeline
Cancellation or reduction in the number of participants requiring housing must
be made by April 1, 2009 to avoid any cancellation charges.
Cancellation/reservation reductions received after April 1, but at least two
weeks before the reservation start date, will result in a charge of $25 for
each cancellation.
Cancellation/reservation reductions (including unused reservations and no-shows) received
less than two weeks prior to the reservation start date will result in a charge
of $50 per cancellation/reduction.
Check-In & Check-Out
Check-In
Residents can check in between 3:00 PM & 8:00 PM. Any request for an exception to the designated check-in time must be discussed with a Summer Housing representative.
Check-Out
Residents must check out of NYU Housing and turn in their room key by 11:00 AM. Any request for an exception to the designated check-out time must be discussed with a Summer Housing representative.
Timeline for Short-Term Groups
November 17, 2008: Short-term group application available
December 8, 2008: Priority deadline for short term groups to submit reservation requests
January 2009: Short-term group leaders to be notified of the status of their reservation request(s)
April 1, 2009: Cancellation/Reduction deadline (after this date there will be a fee)
Two weeks prior to arrival date: Participant rosters must be turned in to NYU Summer Housing
Two weeks after departure: Invoice will be sent to group coordinator, payment must be remitted within two weeks
Advertising/literature relating to the scheduled event and NYU housing must be submitted
to NYU Summer Housing for approval. NYU Summer Housing
reserves the right to edit advertising pieces.
