Long-Term Group Housing

General Eligibility

Long term group housing is available for groups and organizations with between 10 and 75 program participants seeking housing for a minimum of 3 weeks and up to 11 or 12 weeks.

Participants of long-term groups are not required to be enrolled in summer classes at NYU, however, priority for reservations is given to NYU programs.

Note: Non-NYU organizations whose programs are similar in nature to any NYU academic program are not eligible to reserve housing for their program. Organizations may be asked to provide a detailed overview regarding their program. Upon review, NYU Summer Housing reserves the right to determine whether or not a group can be accommodated.

All program participants must be at least 18 years of age on the date that their reservation begins.

NYU Summer Housing does not currently provide mixed gender housing or family housing.

All residence halls are coed by floor. Individual bedrooms and suites are single sex. NYU residence halls are smoke-free and smoking is not permitted in any area within the residence hall, including private living areas. For more information on our policies, please click here. Residents are responsible for cleaning their bedrooms and all shared areas within their suite.

Two types of residence halls are available:

Traditional Halls

  • No kitchen
  • Meal plan required
  • Located near main NYU campus
  • Air-conditioned--except Rubin Hall (residents of Rubin may not bring air-conditioners; however, fans are permitted)
  • Double/triple occupancy bedrooms within shared suites of up to 6 residents
  • Limited number of single bedrooms within shared suites

Apartment-Style Halls:

  • Every suite has kitchen/kitchenette
  • Meal plan not required
  • All air-conditioned
  • Double/triple occupancy bedrooms within shared suites of up to 10 residents
  • Limited number of single bedrooms within shared suites of up to 4 residents

Please visit the Accommodations section of our site for more information about each hall.

Furnishings

All residents are provided with the following furniture items:

  • Extra-long twin size bed (some bunked)
  • Mattress
  • Desk
  • Desk chair
  • Dresser

Additional furniture may not be brought into the halls. Residents are responsible for providing their own linen. It is recommended that residents bring additional lighting to supplement in-room lighting. Note: Halogen lamps are not permitted.

Special Accommodations

In order to be considered for a reasonable housing accommodation, a resident and his/her healthcare provider must complete the Reasonable Housing Accommodation Request Packet, which is distributed by the NYU Moses Center for Students with Disabilities.

If participants have questions about this process, please have them contact the Moses Center by email at housing.summer.medical@nyu.edu.

Note that if approved for reasonable accommodations through the Moses Center, a participant may be separated from the group in order to fulfill the approved special housing needs.

Services

Athletic Facilities

NYU has two athletic facilities. Both of these facilities are available to summer residents. Each facility includes weight-training equipment, fitness equipment, and a swimming pool.

Cable TV

Cable television is provided in most NYU residence halls by NYU Campus Cable. Residents must provide their own television and cable to connect their television to the cable outlet.

Dining

Campus dining facilities are open Monday through Friday. Residents assigned to a traditional residence hall are required to maintain a meal plan.

Internet Service

Wireless or wired internet connectivity is provided in all residence halls.

Laundry

Laundry facilities are available in each residence hall.

Resource Centers

Located in the lobby of each residence hall, the Resource Center is the primary contact point for information, check-in/out, mail/package distribution, emergencies, and visitor assistance. Resource Centers are generally open daily from 9:00 am - 8:00 pm.

Security

The NYU Department of Public Safety is responsible for the safety and security of NYU residence halls. Public Safety personnel are assigned to each residence hall at all times. Residents must obtain an NYU photo ID card (NYUCard) upon their arrival and must present this identification to the Public Safety Officer each time they enter the residence hall. All guests must provide photo identification and must be signed into the hall by their host.

Staffing

All buildings are staffed with a full time, professional, live-in Residence Hall Director, assisted by a team of professional and paraprofessional staff.

Reservation & Payment Information

Reservations

NYU sponsored groups or programs are given priority in the reservation process. Reservation requests can be made for between 10 and 75 participants. To request a group reservation, please complete the online request form:

Summer Housing Long-Term Reservation Request

The deadline to submit a reservation request is Friday, December 21, 2012.

If a reservation is offered, the group contact will receive an agreement in January 2013 indicating the group's account code, residence hall placement, and the number of residents. This agreement must be signed and returned in order to indicate acceptance of the terms and conditions.

Group Coordination

The group coordinator (typically one or two representatives of the sponsoring organization) will be sent application instructions, which are designed exclusively for distribution to the group's participants. The group coordinator will also receive weekly reports tracking the number of applicants who have applied and will be expected to monitor the progress of their participants.

All applications must be completed at least 3 weeks prior to the group's start date.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that all participants from a group or company will be housed together. Some participants may be housed with residents not affiliated with the group or company.

Payments

Groups may choose to be billed directly for their group's housing charges or individual participants can pay NYU Housing directly. The sponsoring organization is responsible for any outstanding participant charges upon completion of the license period.

Group Payment

If the sponsoring organization is paying for its participants, a minimum $500.00 deposit per applicant must be sent to NYU Summer Housing by Wednesday, May 1, 2013. A group account will be established and all participant charges will be the responsibility of the sponsoring organization. NYU groups must provide a departmental account number authorizing a transfer of funds. A final invoice will be sent to the sponsoring organization approximately two weeks after the group's arrival. Payment is due upon receipt of an invoice.

Individual Payment

If individual participants are paying for themselves, a $500 deposit is required upon completion of the online housing application. The NYU Bursar's Office will send a bill directly to the individual. Note that the organization will become responsible for any outstanding participant charges that are unpaid at the end of the reservation period.

Cancellations & Date Adjustments

Cancellations

Through March 29, 2013:

A group may reduce the size of their original reservation without penalty. The total number of spaces reserved as of March 29 will be considered the final number of spaces reserved.

March 30, 2013 and after:

Any reduction of the number of spaces reserved will result in a charge of $500 per reservation. Reduction of a reservation includes any cancellation of a reservation and any reservation that is not utilized as a result of a participant's failure to check-in (no-shows). Please note that this policy is different from the cancellation policy for individuals not in group housing.

Date changes for individual participants

All participants will have reservations with a start and end date equivalent to the dates listed on the group housing agreement. Should they require alternative dates, the group coordinator will be required to collect these in a spreadsheet that will be sent to housing.summer.groups@nyu.edu at least 3 weeks prior to the group's reservation start date.
