Acquiring an NYU ID Number
If you are a non-NYU student applying for NYU summer housing for the first time, you must acquire an NYU ID number before you can complete the NYU Summer Housing Application online. Non-NYU students who have lived in summer housing previously already have an NYU ID number. Acquiring an NYU ID number is simple, but may take up to two business days depending on the date and time you begin the application process.
Please note, you cannot request an NYU ID prior to the beginning of the application process.
How To Request an NYU ID
- Proceed to the Summer Housing application
- Enter your Social Security Number and date of birth, press submit.
- Enter your name, press submit
- An NYU ID number will be generated for you. This will take one or two business days.
- On the next business day, return to the application page reenter your Social Security Number and date of birth, press submit. If an NYU ID has been issued, you will be taken to the application page. If an NYU ID has not yet been issued, you will receive a message indicating the ID generation is still in process. You should try again the next business day.
- Important: As we are not collecting contact information during this process, you will not be contacted when your NYU ID number is generated. The only way to determine if an NYU ID has been generated for you is to return to the application page and resubmit your SSN & date of birth.
What if I don't have a Social Security Number?
Applicants without a Social Security Number must complete an online request for a number to use in place of a Social Security Number. To be issued one of these numbers, please click here.
Statement Regarding Use of Social Security Numbers:
NYU Summer Housing requires all non-NYU applicants with Social Security Numbers to use this number on their initial application, whether applying online or with the printed application form. New York University uses the Social Security Number to generate a unique NYU identification number for each individual resident and/or student. Once the NYU ID number is issued, the Social Security Number is not used again.
