When is the program held?
NYU Precollege 2012 is from July 2 to August 10.

Who can apply?
Students who will be high school juniors or seniors in the fall of 2012 are eligible to apply to NYU Precollege.

How selective is the program?
NYU Precollege is a highly selective program. Students are in class with college-aged students and are expected to work at the same pace. Students offered admission typically have a B+ average or higher as well as a strong letter of recommendation.

How do I apply?
Submit an application, a personal statement, a current official high school transcript, and a letter of recommendation to the Office of University Programs. Visit the application page for more information.

When is the application deadline?
March 1, 2012 for International and residential applicants. April 1, 2012 for Priority non-residential and scholarship applicants. April 15, 2012 for regular non-residential applicants. Applications received after April 15, 2012 will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

What courses are available?
Over 75 courses in more than 30 academic areas.

Will I earn college credit?
Yes. All of the NYU Precollege courses award credit. You may take up to two courses and students who plan to live on campus must take two courses. When applying to college, students should request a copy of their NYU transcript to transfer credit.

How do I access my NYU email account?
The link to your NYU email is located on the left-hand side of your NYUHome page. If you have trouble accessing your NYU email account, please refer to these instructions.

What if the class I want is full?
If your first choice course is full (or closed), we will try to enroll you in a similar course or help you find another course of interest. Courses are available at a first come, first served basis, so we encourage students to apply early.

Will I be receiving an NYU ID card?
As an NYU Student, you will be given an NYU ID card that enables access to all NYU resources and buildings during the program. Although the NYU ID card will be your primary ID while you are at NYU, you should bring another form of photo identification as well. Examples of photo identifications include:

Driver's Permit
Driver's License
State Identification
High School Identification
Passport

You will need a valid photo ID to get your NYU ID card, and it is a good idea to have a second ID on hand if your NYU ID card is lost or stolen and you need a back-up ID until you get a new card. Also remember to pack your health insurance card and to carry it with you while in the program! That way, you are covered in case of an emergency.

Do I have to attend class all six weeks?
Yes. If you feel that you may need to miss one or more weeks of the program due to family, school, or other obligations, you should not to apply. Precollege courses condense 15 weeks of material into a six-week session. Missing even a few days can be detrimental to your understanding the material and your ability to contribute to class discussions.

Do I have to take a noncredit workshop?
There are two noncredit workshops from which students may choose. They are optional for commuter students. Residential students must enroll in one of the workshops. These courses are among our most popular in the program.

Is financial aid available?
The scholarship application is automatically sent to students who indicate an interest in Financial Aid upon submission of their Precollege Application. A limited amount of financial aid is available. Students are encouraged to seek financial assistance from their schools, boards of education, or community organizations as additional sources of funding.

Is housing available?
University housing is available for NYU Precollege participants.

Why can't I find my bill?
Your bill is available through your Student Center in NYUHome. Instructions on how to view and pay your e-bill are online. Please note that you'll only receive a bill if you are enrolled in courses. Waitlisted courses are not included in your bill. If you have successfully enrolled in your courses but are still unable to access your bill, please contact the Bursar Office at 1-212-998-2800 or 1-212-998-2806.

Will completing this program help me gain admission to NYU?
Successful completion of any advanced or college-level classes will add to your admission profile, but participation in the NYU Precollege program does not guarantee admission into NYU or any other university.
