H81.1075 001 The American Musical and the Formation of the American Identity

Description

Open to graduate and undergraduate students. This course seeks to answer the question as to how the American Identity has been defined and popularized in the American Musical. Several major works of the 20th and 21st century will be surveyed in order to illuminate issues of American Identity such as the American Dream, the American woman, and attitudes on war and race. Works examined will range from “South Pacific” to “Ragtime” and “Wicked.”

This course is open to undergraduate and graduate students. Students interested in taking this course for graduate credit should register for H81.2075.
