NYU Steinhardt offers a variety of residential summer programs designed for high school students interested in Art, Music, and Theater to expand their skills and liberate their imaginations. Students stay in NYU housing with 24-hour security and spend their days in intensive, individualized classes. • New York Art Intensive, June 29-July 17. Study studio art in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and interdisciplinary courses. Program includes critiques, lectures, and visits to artists’ studios, galleries, and museums. • Intensive Three-Week String Quartet Workshop, June 29-July 18. Advanced students (ages 16 and older) experience in-depth study through coaching and private lessons with NYU’s acclaimed faculty and master classes with distinguished guest artists, culminating in weekly public concerts. http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/strings/summer
• Summer Institute for Wind Quintet and Woodwind Chamber Music, June 21-June 27. Wind players (ages 16 and older) study select chamber music ranging from trios to quintets, including master classes with members of the Quintet of the Americas and guest artists. http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/woodwind/summer
• Summer on Broadway: Music Theatre Workshop, June 29-July 17. Talented students from across the country work with music theatre professionals as they study acting, dance, and voice in a specially designed curriculum that leads to a fully staged “showcase.” http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/theatre/summer
• Looking for Shakespeare, June 29-July 26. For three weeks, graduate student-teachers lead an ensemble of 13 to 18 year olds to create and perform an original adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s plays. No university housing is available. http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/edtheatre/summer/shakespeare
• What Makes a Star?, July 6-July 10. Within the media world of image, hype, and lifestyle lies the fascinating business of star making. • Intensive Jazz Guitar Workshop, July 20-August 7. Classes focus on approach note theory, pitch class improvisation, time superimposition, solo guitar playing, application of classical music theory to improvisation, and contemporary composition. http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/music/jazz/summer
