Application Information

Application procedures vary according to the individual program. Each program description has a section regarding how to apply. Please read application procedures for individual programs carefully. Some programs require supporting documents such as proof of language proficiency or writing samples in addition to the application form. Several programs require auditions or creative submissions. Individual program contacts can help answer any questions you may have about the application process.

Application Deadlines
A priority deadline is specified for each program. Since some programs fill very quickly, applying before this deadline is strongly encouraged. Applications received after the priority deadline will be considered if there is space left in the program and/or ample time for newly admitted individuals to obtain any necessary visas or other required documents.

Early applications are strongly encouraged as a limited number of students are accepted into each program and many reach maximum capacity quickly. Accepted students who intend to enroll must confirm their intention to participate by submitting a nonrefundable deposit and are urged to do so immediately upon receiving admission notification; enrollment is not guaranteed until the deposit is received. Deposits will be accepted as long as space remains available.

Application Review
Applications are reviewed as a whole, with close attention paid to the cumulative grade point average and overall strength of academic performance. Supplemental items such as personal statements and foreign language verifications (if required) are also considered.

Only completed applications are reviewed. The review process for a completed application is typically two to four weeks. Applications missing any required items such as personal statements or academic transcripts are not able to be reviewed.

Eligibility
Eligibility and admissions criteria varies among the different programs offered at NYU. Applicants to NYU summer study abroad programs are generally registered at New York University or another accredited U.S. college or university. Typically, students admitted to the program have earned a GPA of at least 3.0. and have completed their freshmen year of study. Individuals who have completed at least one year of college but are not presently enrolled in a college or university or have already graduated are also eligible to apply as a Special Student; however, priority is given to currently matriculated students.

Academic Success
Please be aware that admission to NYU Study Abroad is contingent upon the applicant's continued academic success and an additional review of his or her University records between the offer of admission and departure. Should a student's admission be revoked as a result of this review, New York University is not responsible for refunding any expenses incurred in preparation for the intended semester abroad.
