Urban Design in London, England
July 5 - July 26, 2008
Course
The following course is intended for students interested in a career in architecture, architectural history, art history, urban planning, or architectural preservation. The format of the course is intensive with students fully engaged in class every day for three weeks. Since the students visit numerous sites and view many buildings, the schedule is vigorous. Attendance at all classes and on all field trips is required unless a student becomes ill. This is a useful course for career decision making.

Attention is given to building types and function including government buildings, law courts, religious structures, club houses, row houses, country houses, and multiple dwelling units. Study is made of public housing. Infrastructure plays a major role in the class discussion with study of the underground systems, the new stations, the light rail, the tunnels, and even a 19th-century sewage pumping station.
