Welcome to NYU Study Abroad! We’re delighted that you’ll be spending a semester or year with us and can’t wait to greet you in Tel Aviv. In the meantime, this page will guide you through everything you need to get ready for your term abroad. We’ve mirrored the acceptance letter very closely, so please be sure to use that as an additional reference.

By the time you've visited this site, we're assuming that you've already reserved your place in NYU Study Abroad and gotten (or renewed) your passport. If you haven't, please check your acceptance materials for details on those two very important preliminary steps.

Here’s what’s next:

Ongoing, but get started ASAP!

Unfortunately, NYU does not have the ability to change visa requirements, nor does it help if we call consulates or embassies on your behalf. Though we're happy to help you in whatever way we can, the decision to issue you a visa rests solely with the consulate or embassy. Below you'll find instructions for getting your visa, along with sample visa applications and supporting materials.

ASAP to ensure that all materials get to you promptly.

NYU Students: We'll send all e-mail communication to your NYU e-mail address (not your personal or Stern address), so make sure that you've activated mail forwarding if you don't check that account regularly. In addition, please make sure to update your addresses and phone numbers in NYUHome—that ensures that we're able to contact you with important information, including essential mailings, throughout the semester.

Visiting Students: You'll create an NYUHome account prior to registering for classes (see #4). At that point, be sure to keep your contact information current and check your NYUHome e-mail account regularly.

Ongoing, but the earlier the better. Start the process now!

The housing form is available through the online forms system which will be available early November (see #7).

NYU Students: Remember to cancel NYU Housing for next semester. Bring your original acceptance letter (plus a copy) to the Housing office at 383 Lafayette Street along with the housing cancellation form as soon as possible. The housing cancellation form will be available only shortly. Questions?  E-mail housing@nyu.edu.

Registration begins the week of November 16th.

You'll find the comprehensive list of classes soon via this link. Pick out the courses you like, keeping in mind that some classes may fill before you're able to register.  For registration instructions, click either NYU Student or Visiting Student (this version also includes Blackboard instructions).

NYU Students:  Attending a Pre-Departure Orientation is required for all students.  At the PDO, you will meet staff from the site, learn about courses, student life, excursions, and much more.  For a calendar of these mandatory sessions, please click here.

Visiting Students:  If you’re nearby and able to attend any on-campus events, we’d love to have you.  However, we’re also committed to making sure that those of you who don’t live near New York City are kept in the loop.  Here are a few ways we ensure that you’re just as well-informed as NYU students:

  1. We will send you weekly e-mails with comprehensive “what to do” lists and details.
  2. Our staff is always available to provide prompt assistance to any questions you have by e-mail or phone.
  3. We can put you in contact with students who attend our programs so that you can get inside information on what to expect.  To speak with a former student from your program, please email global.ambassadors@nyu.edu.

All Students:  Click here to view the PowerPoint presentation from our latest pre-departure session.

Submit your Flight Information by December 2nd.

We provide you with information on discount flights in your acceptance packet or via a subsequent e-mail.  You can research your own flights as well, but we hope it gives you a sense of what's available.

June 30th.

Our online forms system is where you'll submit information on your flights, passport, housing preferences, health insurance, and emergency contacts.  However, we also require two paper forms.  These are simple to complete, but will require your time and may require a visit to your physician, so please plan ahead. For detailed information on how to use the Webforms system, please click here.

Paper Forms to Mail In

  • Travel Release (paper form—please download, fill out & return)
  • Medical History (paper form—NYU students will receive their medical history form at the pre-departure orientation sessions. Visiting students will receive the form in their acceptance packet.)
