Scholarships and Financial Aid

NYU Students
NYU students who study abroad at NYU in Prague keep all the scholarship and financial aid that they normally receive while attending NYU's Washington Square campus. Please visit the financial aid page of our website for information on how to request additional aid for your semester abroad. All NYU students who plan to spend a fall semester studying abroad should apply for the prestigious Sir Harold Acton Undergraduate Fellowship. The deadline to apply for this fall-only scholarship is early April.

Visiting Students

  • You can elect to apply for need-based financial aid by following the instructions posted on the financial aid page of our website.
  • If your college or university has a partnership with NYU study abroad the cost of tuition may be less than the above posted figures. Inquire with your study abroad office to learn if there is a partnership with NYU.
  • Specialized Study Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 are available to students from a college or university other than NYU who plan to pursue advanced studies in a variety of subject areas while studying at NYU in Prague. To be considered for a Prague visiting student scholarship please complete and submit the appropriate application form found on the financial aid page with the required materials once you have applied to the NYU in Prague program. Fall applicants will be notified via email by mid-April and spring applicants by mid-November. If you have a question about one of our scholarships please email abroad.admissions@nyu.edu.

In addition, student insurance (health and accident) is mandatory and will vary according to individual policies.

Billing

NYU’s Electronic billing system is the official means of generating tuition bills for all enrolled students. Within a few weeks of registering for classes, students (with the exception of visiting students whose home schools choose to bill them directly for their term at NYU) will receive a message at their official NYU e-mail address notifying them that a bill for tuition, fees, and housing is now available.

Students going to NYU in Prague will be billed an estimated housing charge. This estimate is used as a “placeholder charge” until we place students in their final housing assignment; the initial charge is unrelated to the final housing charge. There are two reasons we do this:

  • Students on financial aid have loans and grant funds released to them earlier.
  • Students can budget ahead and pay the bulk of their charges earlier, rather than waiting until final housing assignments are made.

Once the actual housing placement has been made, the E-bill is adjusted, resulting in either a credit or an additional charge. The final charge will appear on the student's E-bill within 2-3 weeks following the start of the program.

Figure includes tuition for full-time student stats covering 12-18 points, deposit and required registration fees, and several program activities and excursions. For each point taken in excess of 18 points in a semester, there is an additional charge per point. Students are billed electronically through NYU's E-bill system. Please visit the NYU Bursar web site for details about the E-bill process.
*The rates listed are for the 2009-2010 academic year. NYU students pay their individual school tuition, which may differ for Stern and Tisch.

Costs listed above range from doubles to triples in student residence halls. Limited single rooms are avaible at a higher cost. Students participating in this program are required to live in NYU housing. **Please note that costs may fluctuate with the exchange rate.

Study Abroad housing costs, depending upon the site and the accommodation option selected, usually include: utilities, insurance, access to health professionals and medical resources, immigration fees, 24-hour security, cleaning services, and meals. These factors impact prices and guarantee that both NYU and the student are in compliance with local legislation. NYU does all it can to keep housing costs low while maintaining the high quality of services and facilities we provide - which are among the most comprehensive in the Study Abroad field.

Assistance through one of the world's largest providers of medical and security evacuation as well as general travel aid (e.g., lost document assistance). This company provides 24-hour global services with the help of our site staff to our students abroad.

Some excursions and cultural activities are included in tuition costs.

Meals may be prepared by students in the residence hall; however, most students prefer to dine in restaurants. Prices outside the tourist center are significantly lower and students can find very reasonably priced restaurants.

Costs include visa application fee, local transportation, laundry, telephone, utilities, and some independent travel. With the exception of tuition, all costs are estimated and may vary depending on each student's budget.
