Orientation
By the time you arrive in Paris, you'll have already registered for your courses. Through a carefully planned orientation program, you'll attend information sessions, tour parts of the city, and begin the required Workshop in French Language and Culture, which provides an intensive introduction to the French language and a grand introduction to French culture and your new city, including an excursion outside of Paris.
Class Schedule
The class schedule in Paris is similar to the NYU schedule in New York with language classes meeting four times a week (note: two-week French language workshop at the beginning of the semester meets Monday through Friday). Friday is a free day for you to explore the city or participate in co-curricular activities and excursions.
Housing and Meals
Freshmen will be housed in a centrally located NYU approved residence hall. Resident advisors are graduate students enrolled in courses at NYU in Paris. Additional information, including cost, will be made available as soon as possible.
Trips and Activities
Students in the NYU in Paris program have access to some of the finest museums, galleries, theatres, and architectural monuments in the world. Our program features a wide variety of cultural activities that give students an extraordinary opportunity to enhance their experience abroad. Most activities are covered in the cost of tuition and include day trips to places such as Normandy, Giverny, and Versailles. Special events such as cheese tastings, film screenings, lectures, literary readings, walking tours, and guided museum visits are also scheduled. NYU in Paris organizes outings to theatre, ballet, and opera performances, as well as for special art exhibitions. Weekend excursions are organized to places such as Avignon, Burgandy, Mont-Saint-Michel, and La Rochelle. Most of these trips are subsidized by NYU in Paris. Unless required for a course, all activities are optional.
Sports
Students may practice some of their favorite sports in the athletic department of the University of Paris after they receive their French student cards. Classes include: yoga, stretching, boxing, and tai chi. To take advantage of this facility, students need proof of good health from a physician. This can be indicated on the medical form students are required to submit for study abroad. A copy of this form, is all that is required to join the university sports facility. Those accustomed to more equipped facilities may prefer to join a private gym club.
Student Life Services
A knowledgeable student services staff assists students with their adjustment to French life outside of class. The staff assigns housing, plans activities and sees to the general well-being of the student body. Being away from home and familiar surroundings can sometimes be disorienting, and the student life staff is prepared to respond to any questions or concerns which may arise throughout the semester. Staff is available Monday – Friday during regular business hours and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week on an emergency cell phone to respond to any emergency events that may present themselves in off hours.
