Welcome! We’re delighted that you’ll be spending the year with us and can’t wait to greet you in Paris. In the meantime, this page will guide you through everything you need to get ready for your year abroad.

By the time you've visited this site, we're assuming that you've already been admitted to and confirmed your place in the Liberal Studies Freshmen  in Paris program. If you haven't, please check your acceptance materials for details on this important preliminary step. What follows may seem a bit overwhelming at first glance, but we've broken it down into these easy-to-follow instructions.

Here’s what’s next:

Apply for or Renew Your Passport

ASAP

For more information on getting or renewing your passport, U.S. citizens please visit the Department of State’s travel website. Please note that the French government requires that your passport be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned return from study abroad. The government retains the right to deny you entry into France if your passport is not valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned return (September 2010), so make sure to renew it now. Non-U.S. citizens should contact their local consulate for information on obtaining a visa.

Return Your Liberal Studies in Paris Form

Deadline June 1st.

Please be sure to fill out and return the Liberal Studies in Paris information form (see below) by email (freshmen.paris@nyu.edu) or fax (212-995-4771). Keep in mind that the information included on this form is very important so the sooner you return it to our office, the better.

Get Your Student Visa

Ongoing, but the earlier the better. Start the process now!

Unfortunately, NYU does not have the ability to change visa requirements, nor does it help if we call consulates or embassies on your behalf. Though we're happy to help you in whatever way we can, the decision to issue you a visa rests solely with the consulate or embassy. Below you'll find instructions for getting your visa, along with sample visa applications and supporting materials.

**If you are not at US citizen, please first visit the French Consulate's website to determine whether you will need a visa to study in France. Then, contact your local French consulate or embassy for additional information about application requirements for your country of citizenship.**

Update NYUHome

ASAP to ensure that all materials get to you promptly

NYUHome is an excellent resource which provides you with an NYU email address, information on your bursar account and access to Blackboard where you’ll be able to access the information we’ve put together about Paris for you to read before you depart. Once you have access to NYUHome, please make sure to update your addresses and phone numbers in our system—to ensure that we’re able to contact you with important information, including essential mailings as we’ll use the contact information you provide there. You can find instructions on how to start using NYUHome's basic functions here. Please note that you will not use NYU Home to register for classes and will instead fill out a Course Registration Form.

Through your NYU Home, you will be able to access an NYU in Paris Blackboard Shell that contains vital information for incoming NYU in Paris students, including Liberal Studies freshmen.  Please consult this site regularly, but be sure to verify that the information pertains to Liberal Studies freshmen!

Note: If you reside at an international address, you will be unable to update your current location through NYUHome. Instead, you should contact the Registrar’s Office directly at registrar@nyu.edu or 1-212-998-4800 to have your address updated.

Book Your Flight

ASAP!

Please do not arrange your flight until the calendar has been confirmed.

Arrival: September 2nd, 2009
Winter break: December 18, 2009 to January 12, 2010. While you will be able to access housing as early as January 4th, you are not required to return to Paris on that date.  You will be expected to return for Spring semester by January 25th at the latest.

Please note that housing is not provided over winter break.

Please be on the look-out for an email in coming weeks about how to provide your arrival information to NYU in Paris.
