Welcome to NYU Study Abroad! We’re delighted that you’ll be spending a semester or year with us and can’t wait to greet you in Paris. In the meantime, this page will guide you through everything you need to get ready for your term abroad. We’ve mirrored the acceptance letter very closely, so please be sure to use that as an additional reference.

By the time you've visited this site, we're assuming that you've already been admitted to and confirmed your place in the GSP Freshman Year in Paris program. If you haven't, please check your acceptance materials for details on this important preliminary step. What follows may seem a bit overwhelming at first glance, but we've broken it down into these easy-to-follow instructions.

Here’s what’s next:

Apply for or Renew Your Passport

ASAP

For more information on getting or renewing your passport, please visit the Department of State’s travel website. Please note that the French government requires that your passport be valid for at least 4 months beyond your planned return from study abroad. The government retains the right to deny you entry into France if your passport is not valid for at least 4 months beyond your planned return (September 2008), so make sure to renew it now.

Return Your GSP in Paris Form

June 1st

Please be sure to fill out and return the GSP in Paris information form ASAP. Keep in mind that the information included on this form is very important so the sooner you return it to our office, the better.

Get Your Student Visa

Ongoing, but the earlier the better. Start the process now!

Unfortunately, NYU does not have the ability to change visa requirements, nor does it help if we call consulates or embassies on your behalf. Though we're happy to help you in whatever way we can, the decision to issue you a visa rests solely with the consulate or embassy. Below you'll find instructions for getting your visa, along with sample visa applications and supporting materials.

Update NYUHome

ASAP to ensure that all materials get to you promptly

NYUHome is an excellent resource which provides you with an NYU email address, information on your bursar account and access to Blackboard where you’ll be able to access a bunch of information we’ve put together on Paris for you to read before you leave. Once you have access to NYUHome, please make sure to update your addresses and phone numbers in our system—that ensures that we’re able to contact you with important information, including essential mailings as we’ll use the contact information you provide there. You can find instructions on how to start using NYUHome's basic functions here. Please note that you will not use NYU Home to register for classes and will instead fill out a Course Registration Form included in your acceptance packet.

Note:If you reside at an international address, you will be unable to update your current location through NYUHome.  Instead, you should contact the Registrar’s Office directly at registrar@nyu.edu or 1-212-998-4800 to have your address updated.

Book Your Flight

Submit your flight information online by June 15th

We will provide you with information on discount flights in your acceptance packet. That said, feel free to research and book your own flights instead. The option to go through NYU’s discount flight or make arrangements independently is yours.

Arrival: September 1st, 2007
Winter break: December 22nd, 2007 to January 12th 2008

Please note that housing is not provided over winter break.

Complete the Course Registration Form

May 25th

A course registration form will be emailed to you on May 18th. You should complete the form, indicating your choice of courses by the above deadline.

Submit All Required Forms

June 15th for all online forms, July 6th for paper forms

Our new online forms system--where you'll submit information on your flights, passport, health insurance, and emergency contacts--is now available.  However, we also require two paper forms.  These are simple to complete, but will require your time and may require a visit to your physician, so please plan ahead.
