The Comm*Unity First Year Service Learning Experience is designed to bring together service-minded incoming freshman commuters to participate in community service projects. The program provides an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, strong friendships, and share rewarding experiences while engaging in uplifting community service.
Participants will create a series of service projects throughout the fall and spring semester and attend an Alternative Break over spring break. An Alternative Break is a trip where a group of students participate in a week of volunteer service during Spring Break.
The Comm*Unity experience supports students by connecting them with an NYU faculty member and 2 student advisors (one undergraduate student, one graduate students) to help create the community service projects.
The Commuter Leadership Upperclass Experience (CLUE!) is a new program for 2014-2015 designed specifically for sophomore, junior, and senior commuter & off campus students to learn about various topics that correlate to the different offices located throughout the university.
Students will be given the opportunity to participate in bi-weekly interactive educational workshops that would provide them with resources and connections to both students and staff members. These workshops will also focus on leadership development and character building.
There will be an outing once a month that will provide students with first hand experience and knowledge about the topic of the month. The group will be led by an undergraduate student leader, with the support of Student Resource Center staff.
