SERVE! is a one-year program designed for service-oriented commuter and off-campus sophomore to senior undergraduate students to participate in community service projects in the local NYC area. The program provides students an opportunity to learn about local social issues and develop leadership skills all while serving both the NYU and NYC communities. Participants will volunteer at local organizations and lead monthly service projects, all culminating in a large service project per semester for all commuter and off-campus students to participate.
Students will be able to apply developed leadership skills by engaging in active group participation and by designing service projects for their cohorts and the greater NYU community.
Students will be able to identify and provide leadership and community building opportunities to the entire commuter & off-campus student body.
Students will understand the concepts of Active Citizenship and be able to apply it in their biweekly service projects and individual lives.
While time commitments vary depending on the service project, students should expect to dedicate approximately 10-12 hours a month to the entire program. This time commitment encompasses weekly meetings; service projects; SERVE! events; and any other individual responsibilities. Please note that some service projects will occur during weekends.
Applicants will be notified for interviews via email by Monday, April 9th, 2012. Interviews will be held starting April 16th and extend until April 20th. Applicants will also be notified about their status by April 20th.
Unfortunately, applicants who wish to apply to SERVE! must be able to dedicate an entire year to the program. If you are studying abroad, please email nyuserve@gmail.com to be on the listserv and receive news about upcoming volunteering events!
