Fall Semester Dates

Once you arrive on campus, there are still a few deadlines to keep in mind. We've also included other major dates and links to calendars for dates throughout the year

September 5

Labor Day

National Holiday.  No classes scheduled and University Offices are closed.. Residence halls are open throughout the break. Dining Halls have limited hours.


September  6

First Day of Classes


September 19-25

NYU Presidential Inauguration  

Andrew Hamilton will be officially inaugurated as the 16th President of NYU on Sunday, September 25. To mark the occasion and celebrate as a community, the University is planning a series of special events -- from faculty presentations to student showcases to community-building activities. Details to follow but be sure to make some time that week to join in the festivities.


September 20

Last Day to Change Meal Plan

"New York University requires all freshmen living in NYU housing to participate in the NYU Dining meal plan program. All freshmen will automatically be assigned the 300 Flex meal plan. Meal Plan changes may only be made by submitting the online form via NYUHome > ""Housing Forms"" log-in channel > Housing Forms options.


September 30

Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Deadline

Most students are automatically enrolled in an NYU-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan. Students can use the online process to change their NYU plan option or to waive the NYU plan if they maintain alternate insurance coverage that meets the University's criteria at


October 10

Fall Recess

Student Fall Break with no classes scheduled.  Note that University Offices are open. Residence halls are also open throughout the break.  Dining Halls have limited hours.


October 22

Alumni and Parents Day

Parents of new freshmen and transfer students are invited to attend this one-day program of workshops and receptions hosted by individual schools and Student Affairs offices.

November 23-27

Thanksgiving Break

University Offices are open on November 23.  Residence halls remain open throughout the break. Dining Halls will be closed or have limited hours.


December 19-23

Final Exam Week


Winter Break

Begins December 24
