Research

There are various research tools available to NYU students, beginning with NYU’s Elmer Holmes Bobst Library, on Washington Square South. The amount of resources in and around Bobst — not to mention our distinct subject libraries (Medicine, Law, Fine Arts) — is surely staggering, so we will only present the essentials. Our libraries host a research staff available at almost all hours of the day to assist you in your research: find out how to Ask a Librarian by email, phone, IM, or text message. Consult with the research specialists for your academic field for more specific inquiries or to recommend a purchase for our libraries.

Via the Research tab of your NYUHome account, or through library.nyu.edu, you can access BobCat, the comprehensive database of books, electronic texts, journals, and audio-visual materials held by all NYU and consortium libraries. Next, the Databases section will allow you to search in JSTOR  or Lexis-Nexis, internet-based scholarly projects made accessible by your affiliation with NYU.

NYU provides access to other local catalogs, such as the New York Public Library Network, opening the doors to the other premier research institutions in the city. We encourage our students not to be bound by the availability of materials – if the document you need isn’t available in our stacks, you can request it through Inter-Library Loan from any of the many participating institutions around the world.
