Commuter Connection Communities are a semester long program that affords upperclassman commuter and transfer commuter students the opportunity to build community with their peers surrounding a themed area of passion. Connection Communities foster a space for students to connect through multiple programs including a faculty experience, all surrounding their community’s topic of choice.
Spring 2017 THEMES
Card Magic Community:
Ever wonder how a simple deck of cards can teleport? How are there people with special powers that can change cards and be so charismatic? Come join this Connection Community to learn what it takes to be one of the select few with this power. Defy logic and woo that special person. Learn, practice, and observe professionals. Together, we will learn and harness our magical abilities.
This community will meet on 2/13, 3/6, 3/27 and 4/24 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Fitness and Health Wellness Community:
Do you look to the weight room as a way to escape the classroom? Whether its lifting weights or searching for that healthy food alternative, controlling fitness is a great way to counter the stress of your academic life. Join your fellow classmates in exploring the world of health fitness and using weights to lift your spirits!
This community meets on the following days: 2/25, 3/25, and 4/25 at 12pm.
Coffee Centric Community:
Join us to learn, grow, and share experiences about your favorite caffeinated beverage: coffee! We will be attending the NYC Coffee and Tea Festival, coffee workshops, and more, while becoming more informed about everything coffee in this community just for commuters and transfers. Whether you are a light coffee drinker or an addict, you are sure to love this experience a LATTE!
This Connection Community will be meeting on 2/18, 3/18, 3/19 and 4/22 at 12pm!
Visual Art Community:
Do you need a break from classes? Do you enjoy visual art? Are you a commuter looking to make friends? Join the Visual Art Connection Community, where you will be able to relax and make art with other commuters who share your interests. Make art in multiple mediums, play board games, go on trips, and much more! Never picked up a paintbrush in your life? Not a problem! No artistic background necessary!
This community will meet on the following days: 2/2 and 3/9 at 7pm as well as 3/31 and 4/28 at 12pm.
Indie PC Gaming:
Become a piece of bread, try to not explode, and throw your friends off scaffolding! No gaming experience required. Full Steam Ahead is a gaming community, focused on building community by playing new, upcoming, and indie games on Steam. We will be discussing the current events in gaming as well, ranging from interesting new releases to diversity and community impact. Students will be able to engage in a variety of games that they may not have played before, some of which will require teamwork, cooperation, quick thinking, and problem solving. We hope to create interest in gaming for those who aren’t familiar and explore what makes games the interactive adventure they are.
This community will meet on 2/7, 3/7, 4/4 and 5/2 at 6pm

Commuter and Faculty Excursions (C.A.F.E.) afford Commuters and Transfer Commuters the opportunity to explore New York City alongside their peers and an esteemed NYU Faculty Member. C.A.F.E is designed to create conversation, community, and co-curricular learning.
Previous programs have included: A Night at the Apollo; and, Look Back and Snack: An LES Culinary Experience.
