Spotlight On

Dear Students,

Welcome to the NYU family! We are delighted that you are joining our community of scholars in one of the world’s most exciting cities. As you embark on your journey of intellectual discovery and personal growth, we look forward to making connections with you and helping you connect to NYU and New York City.

We hope you’ll take an active role in student life and get involved early in your college career: community service, sports, the arts—the possibilities are endless. Doing so is a terrific way to make friends and learn new skills. Explore the diversity among our students, faculty, and staff and share your own unique heritage while joining with others in celebrating theirs. Open your mind to new ideas and you’re likely to find there’s something to learn from every experience during your time at NYU.

This guide is a compilation of information about services and activities that are available to all NYU students. There are services to help you keep fit and healthy, find a job or a place to live, and choose a career, among many others. There is also a wealth of activities in which to participate. Over 400 clubs, several newspapers and magazines, a radio station, intramural sports, and student politics are just some of the options.

We ask you, as the newest members of the NYU community, to be thoughtful, to take responsibility for your own actions, and to respect the rights of others. We also ask that you take care of yourself and each other so you can make the most of your NYU experience. You will soon discover that this world-class university and this world-class city will provide you with an unparalleled educational experience. I know that both the University and the city will be enriched by your presence and contributions.

I look forward to greeting you during Welcome Week.

With all best wishes,

Marc L. Wais
