On the first Tuesday of each month, readers seek out WSN’s magazine, Brownstone. The magazine explores the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality at NYU. NYUNEWS.com brings readers breaking news, special Web-only features, classified ads, and e-mail subscriptions for the daily headlines. Navigating the Univer-city

A Few Tips for Navigating the Campus

  • Most NYU buildings are easily identified by violet and white flags and banners. Safety reminder: A green light over the main entrance to an NYU building indicates a 24-hour Public Safety officer station in the lobby.
  • The West Fourth Street subway station is not at West Fourth Street. Entrances are on Sixth Avenue at Third Street and just north of Waverly Place.
  • West Fourth Street ceases to be West Fourth Street at MacDougal Street, where it becomes Washington Square South. It resumes as West Fourth Street at the east side of the park.
  • The Silver Center and Waverly and Brown Buildings are all connected by internal hallways. Note: The elevators in the Silver Center and Waverly Building are the proverbial sardine cans at class breaks. Arrive early or use the stairs.
  • Check for signs in the elevator waiting areas for specific information regarding odd- or even-floor stops.
  • Tisch can mean different things to different people: To performing and visual arts students, Tisch is Tisch School of the Arts; to business students, it’s Tisch Hall; and to SCPS students it’s Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management.
  • UC Tisch is the Upper Concourse in Tisch Hall and is the first level down; LC Tisch is the Lower Concourse and is the second level down. LL1 Bobst is the first level down in Bobst Library; LL2 Bobst is the second level down.
  • And, finally, don’t be afraid to ask directions. You will find that the Public Safety officers, students, and staff will readily assist you, and you may make a new friend.
