Who are Peers in Residence?

The Peer Educators in Residence (PEIR) program is a premier leadership opportunity within the Division of Student Affairs that connects the services of several affiliate offices to the residential experience by utilizing the expertise of students who are trained to provide educational programs and outreach in alignment with the mission of the New York University.

Peer Educators in Residence are full-time students in their sophomore year or more, in good academic standing, living in the residence halls. They serve as a resource, referral agent, educator, and role model for other students. The role of the Peer Educator in Residence includes:

  • Personalizing the campus environment by providing important services, programs, information and resources that empower students with a greater understanding of self and their institution.
  • Developing trustful, non-judgmental relationships with residents in order to support students in reducing risk in their behavioral choices.
  • Measuring the mood and tone of the NYU student residents and identifying themes to inform outreach and education efforts.
  • Partnering with Resident Assistants to implement educational programs and support the mission of residential education.
