Registration

Incoming transfer students, based solely on timing of acceptance, register after most other NYU students have registered for classes. This often means that the courses and the course times you would like most might already be filled. Although most of us do not desire 8am classes, it often is a necessary sacrifice for many students in order to fulfill class and degree requirements. The good news is that after your first semester here, you will have a more desirable registration date and therefore a better chance at getting the classes and class times you are interested in.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

Each school within NYU accepts a different number of transfer credits. Some schools and departments will allow you to transfer 64 credits to NYU while other schools and departments will only allow you to transfer 30 credits to NYU. Please check with your individual school to see how many credits you are allowed to transfer in. Many schools also have a “residency requirement”. This means that you are required to take a certain number of credits at NYU. Likewise, NYU only accepts credits for courses in which you received a grade of “C” or higher.

It is recommended that you keep syllabi and writing samples of all previous courses you took. These might be needed when evaluating your courses for transfer credits. Until your transfer credit is finalized, you are not considered fully matriculated in NYU. Hence your standing at NYU will read “Freshman” until transfer credit is finalized.
