Mmm... Museums

History, art, culture, technology and air conditioning--all just a subway ride away. Many museums have student discounts or a "suggested donation" admissions policy.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art With two million works in the permanent collection, the Met could keep you busy for days. Current special exhibitions include The Pictures Generation, 1974-1984 and Pierre Bonnard: The Late Interiors. Visit www.metmuseum.org for more.

National Museum of the American Indian The architectural splendor of the Customs House now hosts exhibitions, performances, and video screenings that present the diversity of the Native peoples of the Americas from the earliest times to the present. American Museum of Natural History This museum covers an astonishing diversity of topics from Astronomy to Zoology. The current special exhibit, Extreme Mammals opens May 16th. Don't forget to check out the Planetarium! Central Park West & 79th Street. www.amnh.org
Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art Two millenia of art from Earth's highest peaks. Catch Stable as a Mountain through July 13th. $7 with student I.D. Free Friday evenings www.rmanyc.org
The Brooklyn Museum One of the oldest and largest museums in the US, with diverse holdings including a vast collection of Egyptian antiquities and the new Sackler Center for feminist art. www.brooklynmuseum.org
