The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has a special connection to Japanese plant and cultures, including a Bonsai Museum.

Through September The New York Botanical Garden hosts The Edible Garden, a summer-long celebration featuring horticulture displays, fun-filled food and gardening estivals, and programs that demonstrate the bounty of edible plants!
With its expansive gardens and gorgeous river views, a visit to Fort Tryon Park feels like traveling out of town. Stop by The Cloisters, a museum housed in medieval buildings transported to the park from Europe, for a trip to another time.

Beaches Smell that salty air, or brave a dip in the ocean
Coney Island is crowded, noisy, utterly unique and absolutely delightful. Enjoy rides, sideshow acts, the Coney Island museum, and snacks galore.
Rockaway Beach spans several neighborhoods in Queens and offers everything from surfing to birdwatching to a Victorian boardwalk whose faded glories rival Asbury Park.
Recreational boating at parks throughout the city; rental of kayaks, paddleboats, etc at many locations
