History, art, culture and technology--all just a subway ride away. Many museums have student discounts or a "suggested donation" admissions policy.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art With two million works in the permanent collection, the Met could keep you busy for days. National Museum of the American Indian The architectural splendor of the Customs House now hosts exhibitions, performances, and video screenings that present the diversity of the Native peoples of the Americas from the earliest times to the present. American Museum of Natural History This museum covers an astonishing diversity of topics from Astronomy to Zoology.
