MARCH 2012 ISSUE
Students are returning from their week off and we're on the homestretch to the end of the academic year. Last year at this time we thought our snowy winter would never end, and this year it's as though it has never arrived. Our March newsletter provides updates on the housing reapplication process, summer, commencement, a special note about end of the year transitioning, and helpful information on commonly requested tax forms.
UNDERGRADUATE HOUSING RE-APPLICATION PROCESS
Phase 1 of the Re-application process ends this week. Students who reapply by the deadline are then eligible to participate in the room selection process. A $1000 non-refundable/non-transferable application fee and the online application are due by March 21, 2012. More detailed information is available on the Residential Life and Housing Services website (Click here) or staff can assist with questions by calling 212-998-4600 (M-F, 9am-5pm, EST).
The re-application process continues in April with Phase 2 (Group Registration) and Phase 3 (Room Selection).
NYU TRAVEL PORTAL
Did you know that travel resources and discounts available to the NYU Community are also available to parents? The NYU Travel Portal was designed to be used for travel both locally or around the world. Click for more information.
THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2012
During Spring Break, students should have begun to receive information from their school and the university. For students currently enrolled in classes, information will be mailed to their local address on record. For those students who graduated last summer or this past fall, information will be mailed to their permanent address on record. Additional details will also be sent to their NYU email address. For more information on the All-University Commencement, as well as individual school ceremonies, go to www.nyu.edu/commencement.
LAST MINUTE ACCOMMODATIONS
Commuters staying late on campus due to studying or campus activities can request last minute reservations to stay on campus at the Greenwich Hotel (an NYU residence hall). Depending on the availability of space, students can request a reservation for $15 per night. This is for same day reservations, and available only Monday through Friday. For additional information on the program, click here. (sorry parents, we can only offer this to students!)
A wide range of classes (including more than 20 programs abroad) are offered from May to August for students who want to fulfill degree requirements, explore new areas of interest, or accelerate their degree program. Summer Housing is also available for students taking classes, and limited housing is available for students who are staying in New York, but not enrolling in classes. For more information on dates, courses, fees, and housing, go to www.nyu.edu/summer.
Although we're still several months away, it's not too early to begin thinking about the end-of-year transitions. Students living on campus will usually begin the move-out process during exam week, and for some, that can be as early as May 9th. Students who are not staying in summer housing are expected to move out within 24 hours of their last final exam. For students who will remain in housing during the summer, information will be provided regarding their transition to their new space once their room becomes available. For those students who need to store things over the summer, check out the Neighborhood Resources link on the Parent's website, which has information on moving, shipping, and storage options. Look for additional information in the April newsletter regarding the residence hall "Green Apple Move Out" program in which students can donate clothing and other items at the end of the semester.
