Dear NYU Parents,

It may have snowed just days ago, but signs of spring are everywhere at NYU: mid term exams, spring break plans, and seniors looking forward to life after college. With just ten weeks left in the semester, this month's newsletter provides updates on Spring Break, summer sessions, housing, commencement, and a special note about NYU's Student Health Center. As always, please contact us at the Parents Helpline (212.998.4219) or via email at parents@nyu.edu with your questions and comments, or your suggestions for future newsletters.

SPRING BREAK
Spring break will take place March 16-22. Residence halls will remain open, but dining halls will be closed; other university services may have reduced hours. Visit the Student Resource Center website beginning Tuesday, March 10 for vital information about both university services and city-wide happenings during spring break. Also note that the university has communicated a safety advisory to students traveling abroad during Spring Break. Click here for details.

HOUSING LOTTERY CONTINUES
During Phase II of the Housing Lottery (March 11-27), students will complete a lottery card either individually or with their intended roommates for next year. A student may not make changes to the lottery card once it is submitted, so you and your student may want to closely read the instructions for Phase II. You can also look over The Washington Square News Housing Guide for information about different residence halls.

REGISTERING FOR FALL 2009
Registration for Fall 2009 classes begins April 20th, with registration times assigned based on the number of completed credits. Students must meet with an academic advisor before registering. Encourage your student to begin looking at possible courses when they become available later this month and to make the most out of his or her advising visit.

MAY INTENSIVE and SUMMER SESSION
A wide range of classes (including programs abroad) are offered from May to August for students who want to fulfill degree requirements, explore new areas of interest, or accelerate their degree program. Classes are offered anywhere from 3-week-intensives to all-summer-12-week sessions, beginning as early as May 18 and ending as late as August 7. Summer Housing is also available.

SUMMER TRANSITIONS
Will your student live in a residence hall this summer? Applications for Summer Housing are open now. Students who will not stay in housing are expected to move out the day after their last final exam. Wondering what to do with your student's stuff over the summer? Our Neighborhood Resources page has information on nearby storage and postage options. Unwanted items can also be donated to charity through the "Green Apple Move Out" in May.

COMMENCEMENT
All-University Commencement will take place Wednesday, May 13 at Yankee Stadium--just two months away! Now is the time for graduating students to make travel plans, to request tickets for all university commencement and school ceremonies, and to order academic attire. Students can also make use of the Wasserman Center for Career Development in searching for a post-graduation job.

SPOTLIGHT ON...THE STUDENT HEALTH CENTER
NYU's Student Health Center, conveniently located just 5 minutes from Washington Square park, offers a variety of routine and walk-in Primary Care, Women's & Men's Health, and Short-term Counseling services at either no cost or very reduced cost to all matriculated NYU students. But that's not all! Encourage your student to make the most of the Health Center's other services including daily events, smoking cessation resources, stress management workshops, nutrition programs and self-improvement and support groups.
