Summer is a great time to explore NYC and surrounding areas! You are receiving this newsletter because you are participating in a summer program or are living in a residence hall at NYU Washington Square. Each week, we'll update you on great happenings around NYU and NYC:

Films on the Green: The Axe
Friday, June 22nd from 8:30pm to 10:30pm | Tomkins Square Park, 500 E. 9th Street
Come see this free French Drama/Thriller, based on the novel The Axe by Donald Edwin Westlake.

Summer on the Hudson Movie Night: Puss In Boots
Saturday, June 23rd from 6:00pm to 10:30pm | Pier 1 (Riverside Park South), at 72nd Street
Celebrate summer with Schwinn & Us Weekly. Come to the complimentary screening of the family friendly flick Puss In Boots with special guest appearance by Dancing Star Derek Hough!

Bryant Park Summer Film Festival: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Monday, June 25th, Lawn opens at 5:00pm | Bryant Park Lawn
While enjoying great summer weather, come watch Paul Newman and Robert Redford as they are the most charming outlaws in this 1969 film.

Music and Performances

SummerStage presents Comedy Central: Indecision in the Park
Wednesday, June 20th from 8:00pm to 10:00pm | Central Park
"Indecision in the Park" is this year's presentation of "COMEDY CENTRAL Park." The event will feature stand-up from The Daily Show including performances by correspondents Wyatt Cenac, Al Madrigal, John Oliver, contributor Kristen Schaal and hosted by John Hodgman.

Toyota Concert Series: Kenny Chesney
Friday, June 22nd | Rockefeller Plaza
Country singer, Kenny Chesney, performs live on the TODAY show in Rockefeller Plaza

Shakespeare in the Park: As You Like It
Now Through June 30th at 8:00pm | Delacorte Theater, Central Park; enter from 81st Street and Central Park West or 79th Street and Fifth Avenue
Tickets are FREE and are distributed, two per person, at the Delacorte Theater at 1:00pm the day of the show or online the day of the show through the virtual ticket lottery.

Celebrate Brooklyn!: Ghostface Killah
Saturday, June 23rd at 6:30pm | Prospect Park Bandshell
Join Celebrate Brooklyn! as they ring in the season with the Lyricist Lounge-an open mic series started over 20 years ago. This show is featuring Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah. Donation of $3 is suggested, but not mandatory.

Good Morning America Summer Concert Series
Fridays throughout the summer from 7:00am to 9:00am | Central Park Rumsey Playfield
GMA's Summer Concert Series, sponsored by Pepsi Co., returns for the fourth year to the Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, where music's biggest names will perform live every Friday. Performances are free and open to the public. Note: Viewers interested in joining GMA for the concerts should arrive at Rumsey Playfield via the 72nd street Central Park entrance on Fifth Avenue at 6:00am when the park opens to the public. The line-up includes:

June 29: LMFAO

CityParks PuppetMobile: Bessie's Big Show
Friday, June 22nd at 10:30am; Saturday, June 23rd at Noon | West Bronx Recreation Center
PuppetMobile shows welcome audience members of all ages, and is best for 2-8 year olds.

Le Carrousel at Bryant Park
Everyday from 11:00am to 8:00pm | Bryant Park
The carrousel costs $2 per ride, or buy a discount card to enjoy 10 rides for $15.

Little New-Yorkers
Every Tuesday and Friday at 3:30pm | New York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West
Free with Museum Admissions, for ages 3-5. Each class will include time with historic toys, a special Little New-Yorkers hellow song, story readings, and a related craft project.

Sports and Fitness

Bryant Park Tai Chi
Thursday, June 21st from 7:30am to 8:30am | Bryant Park
Join the Tai Chi Chuan Center at Bryant Park for free exercise for all ages and experience levels.

Summer on the Hudson: Shape Up with Yoga Fridays
Friday, June 22nd from 2:30pm to 3:30 pm | West Harlem Piers Park
Rejuvinate and relax after a week of work and join Shape Up NYC for FREE yoga in the park.

Kayaking on the Hudson
Every weekend and holiday from 9:00am to 6:00pm | Pier 40
Join the downtown boathouse for free kayaking experience and explore the Hudson River first-hand. No registration required.

Central Park Circuit
Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from June 19th through July 12th | Various Locations in Central Park
In-Park Fitness Classes is a series of 8 classes that follow the format of the Official Central Park Workout in a different landscape each date. Classes are free and open to everybody.

Exhibits, Classes, and Lectures

Designers in Discussion: Made in New York
Thursday, June 21st at 6:30pm | South Street Seaport Museum (12 Fulton Street)
Join several of the City's resident artisans as they talk about their crafts. The discussion is part of the River to River Festival and is in conjunction with an exhibition at the museum that featurs NYU-made products-everything from furniture to fashion.

Summer Improv Intensive Classes
July 9th through August 3rd, Monday to Friday, 2:00pm to 5:00pm | Simple Studios, 134 West 29th Street, 2nd Floor
If you are looking to enhance your improv skills, sign up for the People's Improv Theater's Summer Instensive.

Monet Garden at the New York Botanical Garden
Now through October 21st | New York Botanical Garden, 2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY
This stunning tribute to French Impressionist Claude Monet showcases a seasonally changing interpretation of the garden that inspired his art. Tickets start at $20.

Parades, Fairs and Festivals

Hester Street Fair
Every Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm | Corner of Hester and Essex Street
Hester Street Fair is one of the busiest outdoor markets in New York City. The Fair focuses on curated local goods, food, and most importantly highlights the vibrant spirit of the community.

Pride March
Sunday, June 24th at 11:00am | Starts at 36th Street & 5th Ave, ends at Christopher Street & Greenwhich Street
Join the LGBT community for one of the world's largest gay pride parades. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary. Special needs seating will be available near the intersection of 23rd Street and 5th Avenue.

Astoria Park Independence Celebration
Monday, June 25th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm | Astoria Park Lawn (in Astoria Park), Queens
Join Central Astoria for its annual fireworks and Independence Day celebration! The celebration will feature Joe Battaglia and the New York Big Band along with an appearance by United We Sing.
