What is the subsidy program?
It is a financial assistance program, in the amount of $200 per semester, to assist full-time graduate students who have a child under the age of 6 with the cost of childcare.

Does NYU offer child care service?
No, NYU does not offer child care service. NYU graduate student-parents may contact the Office of Graduate Life who will connect you with a Master's level consultant thorugh Carebridge Corporation. Consultants are available 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year, who will help NYU student-parents to better understand your early education and school-age care options, develop a child care plan that works for you and your family, understand what constitutes quality early childhood education and out-of-school care, research and identify vacancies in the NYC-metropolitan area for regular full and part-time care for your child(ren) from newborn through school-age, identify and select services for your children before and after school, during school holidays and vacation weeks, and establish a back-up care plan and identify options for emergency and sick child care. Students may also take advantage of some of the services offered by NYU Family Care. Who is eligible for the subsidy?
You must be a full-time enrolled graduate student at NYU and have a child under the age of 6. Students who are not eligible: part-time graduate students, certificate students, undergraduate students, medical students, and students with children older than 6.

How do I know if I have full-time status?
Full-time status is defined differently by each school/department/program. You will need to speak with your advisor or an administrator in your academic area of study to find out if you have full time status. Your advisor can confirm your status by making sure you are listed on the Student Information System (SIS - screen #191) as (full-time) or (full-time matriculated) for the semesters in which you are applying. .

What are the steps for applying?
Fill out the online application form and submit proper documentation.

How do I apply?
Visit http://www.nyu.edu/src/grad.life/childcare.subsidy.app.html and fill out the online application. You will then receive an automated email response with instructions on submitting necessary documentation.

I applied last year. Do I need to apply again?
Yes, students interested in the subsidy must apply each academic year that they are interested. We do not keep old applications on file for your privacy.

When do I need to apply by?
The deadline for Fall is November 1. The deadline for Spring is March 1. Students may indicate both fall and spring if the application is submitted by Nov. 1.

I missed the fall deadline. Can I still apply?
You may apply for the spring subsidy. We will not accept late applications.

I have two (or more) children. Can I get a subsidy for each child?
No. The subsidy is one credit per student, not per child.

How much is the subsidy?
$200 per eligible student per semester (fall and spring only). Please note that the subsidy is considered taxable income. For international students this may require the university to tax the subsidy at a 40% rate.

I am taking summer classes. Can I get the subsidy credit then too?
No, the subsidy is only offered in the Fall and Spring semesters.

When will I receive the subsidy?
Applications are processed at the end of each semester. If you are approved, you will receive a confirmation that a subsidy credit will be awarded to your account. Traditionally, the Fall credit will be awarded in the end of Dec/beginning of Jan., and the Spring credit is awarded in the end of April/beginning of May.

How will I receive the subsidy?
If there is a balance on your account (i.e. library fees, next semester's tuition), the $200 will go directly towards that balance. If you have a zero balance, the Bursar's Office will issue a check to your registered address. If you are an international student you will be issued a check through Accounts Payable that will be available for pick up in the Student Resource Center.

How can I check to see if a credit has been awarded?
First, you will have received a confirmation email stating that you have been approved for the credit. If the semester has ended and you have not received your credit, please check your Bursar's statement, by logging on to Albert at http://www.albert.nyu.edu. If you are an international student please contact the Office of Graduate Life at 212-998-4937.

What forms of documentation are required/accepted?
All students who apply for the subsidy must submit a copy of their child's birth certificate or Visa. The document must include the student's name, the child's name, and the child's date of birth. We will only accept e-mailed copies of this documentation, not the actual certificate. International students will also be required to submit additional documentation including a copy of thier passport, I-94, and I-20 or DS 2019 depending on Visa status. Affected students will be notified upon approval of their subsidy.

Can I fax you the copy of my child's birth certificate?
No. We will not accept faxes due to privacy issues. Please email it as an attachment, or bring the certificate to the Student Resrouce Center so we can scan it for you. The Student Resource Center is located at the following address:
