Welcome Week 2008: August 24-29

Are you new to NYU? Looking to meet new people, find out resources and services available to you as an NYU student? Then take advantage of NYU Welcome Week! Welcome Week is a series of programs and events designed to assist new freshman and transfer students in transitioning to NYU and NYC. Welcome Week programs are a great way to meet new people, get to know about the university, experience New York City, and have fun during your first week at NYU.

Welcome Week programs are open to all new NYU students. A complete schedule of Welcome Week events is mailed to new undergraduate students each year in early August. Welcome Week programs are also featured on an online calendar (in the column on the right side of this page). There are also Welcome Week programs for new NYU graduate students. For Graduate Welcome Week information, click here.

While Welcome Week does feature workshops on academic success, academic registration and advisement is not a component of Welcome Week. Advisement and registration are part of the orientations sponsored by NYU schools and departments, which new students are required to attend. Contact the Student Resource Center at 212-998-4411 if you need help contacting your school regarding their orientation programs.

Must-See Welcome Week Programs

Most Welcome Week programs aren't mandatory, but there are a few that all new students are expected to attend:

NYU Presidential Welcome

Join President Sexton, fellow new students, faculty, and university officials for the President's Welcome of the Class of 2012 and new transfer students.

The Reality Show: NYU
Monday, August 25, 2008 - time & location TBA
What happens when 5,000 first year students arrive at Washington Square to attend NYU? How will they adjust to life in the Big Apple? How will it affect their health and wellness? To whom can they turn for support? The Reality Show: NYU is a gritty, funny musical about the lives of NYU students as tehy experience an array of confounding, confusing, and exciting issues. The Reality Show: NYU is written, performed, and produced by NYU students, and directed by Tisch School of the Arts professor Elizabeth Swados.
